After Totalitarianism: Museum, Memory and the Belarusian Perspective
On 8–9 October 2026, the Free Belarus Museum in Warsaw will host an international academic and practical conference dedicated to museum practices of working with difficult historical heritage.
How do museums work with memories of repression, state violence and resistance? How do museum narratives change after political turning points? Where is the boundary between memory, responsibility, justice and reconciliation? What experiences from Poland, the Baltic states, Ukraine, Germany and other countries of Central and Eastern Europe may be relevant to Belarus?
Museum professionals, historians, memory researchers, cultural studies scholars, archivists, curators and specialists working with totalitarian and authoritarian heritage are invited to participate.
