In Warsaw, the play “My Mother in Prison” was performed, based on the memories of children of Belarusian and Soviet political prisoners. The production was created by former actors of the Hrodna Drama Theater, who were forced to leave Belarus, together with colleagues from the Old Vilnius Theater. Children from the “Razam” Theater School, who also cannot return to their homeland, participated in the performance.

Reactions to the event were shared by politician Paval Latushka, book author Volha Vialichka, and director Natalia Lianova.

Natalia Lianova: “I was very nervous because the material is very heavy. And the children too. Some of them come from families of the repressed.”

Volha Vialichka: “Our goal was to show that the pain we have carried for five years should strengthen us; it should teach us not to give up.”

Paval Latushka: “In the play, it is said that a child at 10 is completely free, at 20 – less free, and at 50 – he no longer feels free, it is hard for him to move. I am 50. I can move. And I feel free. And I believe that we will change the situation in our country.”

The performance of “My Mother in Prison” took place at the Museum of Free Belarus.
