On May 27, the Museum of Free Belarus will host the opening of the exhibition “Through the Film: Everyday Life of Soldiers” by Yauhen Zhurawski, a soldier of the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment with the call sign “Salam.”

In his photographs, the fighter captured ordinary moments of military life — without pathos or romanticizing the war.

“Because war is primarily not battles, but training and daily life in difficult conditions,” the photographer notes.

Yauhen began documenting the soldiers’ routine with a film camera in the spring of 2023, and since then, his photos have come together as a coherent series.

In 2024, the Kalinouski Regiment told the story of “Salam.” He is the commander of an 82mm mortar crew, a vegan, who always gives his portion of canned meat to the cats and dogs that come to their positions. “We fight the occupiers, we save cats and Ukrainians,” is how “Salam” described his life philosophy.

During the opening event on May 27 at 6:00 p.m., there will be a meeting with the author.

Location: Museum of Free Belarus (11 Foksal Street).

The exhibition will run until June 3, 2025.
