The Maldzis initiative marked its first anniversary with a festival in Warsaw that featured discussions, talks, project presentations, and a music program. One of the speakers, head of the Belarusian Council of Culture Siarhei Budkin, reflected:
“I was asked a rather provocative question during the discussion: how to sell Belarus to Belarusians? Picking up on that provocation, I decided to think from a business perspective. I came to the conclusion that nothing needs to be sold, because we are not clients — we are the owners of this brand. Our task is to fill it with meaning and ideas, strengthen it, support it, and make it attractive and competitive. The brand is called ‘Belarus.’ And the way to do it is through culture, because culture is the engine. Everyone can invest in this brand — even by buying a concert ticket — and the dividends are shared by all.”
The event took place at the Museum of Free Belarus. Other speakers included Ryhor Astapenia, Pavel Matsukevich, Sviatlana Kurs, Timokh Akudovich, Nasta Rouda, and others.
