The project addresses a practical question: how to preserve artefacts, documents, and testimonies of contemporary Belarusian history in a way that is safe for their owners, using simple, accessible methods based on professional museum standards.
Today, many Belarusians keep at home not only family heirlooms – photographs, letters, documents, and personal keepsakes – but also materials related to civic engagement, cultural initiatives, and the events of recent years. Under conditions of political repression, censorship, and forced exile, these objects are especially vulnerable to loss or destruction. Preserving them has therefore become a shared responsibility.
Every such artefact is a potential historical source. In the future, these materials will help researchers, museum professionals, and historians reconstruct the history of contemporary Belarus, better understand the experiences of Belarusian society, and preserve the memory of the people and events of our time.
The project has already released two educational video tutorials.
The first video introduces the basic principles of preserving material heritage. It explains:

The second video focuses on creating high-quality digital copies of artefacts. It covers:
▶ "A Museum at Home". Video Lesson 2: How to Digitise Your Valuable Collections

The "A Museum at Home" project makes museum knowledge accessible to everyone and demonstrates that preserving heritage begins at home. The video tutorials are intended both for people who wish to organise their family archives and for those preserving materials related to the recent history of Belarus and the Belarusian democratic movement.
This project is implemented with the support of Belarus Beehive and the European Union.
