On August 6, 2025, the Free Belarus Museum will host the official opening of the exhibition “Zostać”, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Ales Pushkin—an artist for whom freedom was a core value and whose art spoke of pain, dignity, and resistance.

The exhibition will run until August 20, 2025, and admission is free.

About the exhibition:

“Zostać” explores identity, memory, migration, and everyday life, combining the personal and the collective, the tragic and the mundane, pain and hope. The project is not solely about Ales Pushkin himself, but about the themes and images central to his life and work, which continue to live on today through other artists. Freedom and responsibility, resistance and dignity, memory and community—these ideas, expressed by Pushkin through his artistic gestures, now find new forms and voices. The exhibition shows how art can continue to speak where words fall silent and how, through personal experience, contemporary artists carry forward what was important to Pushkin: love for Belarus, courage to be oneself, and remembrance of those who fought and endured.

The project is created in partnership with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office.

Exhibition highlights:

The exhibition features painting, installations, and sculptures by Belarusian artists who reflect on exile, rituals, everyday life, and the search for inner grounding in changing times. Participating artists include:
Ksiusha Angelava, Nina Margaieva, Sviatlana Baeva, Aleksei Vrublevski, Yulia Mekes, Dead Boy, Ksenia Lagavaia, @bely, Lera Lazuk, Kasia Varaksa, Sviataslav Kamaroŭ, Yaraslau Hamolka, Mikhail Gulin, Andrei Dukhavnikov, and Ilia Dudarau.

Why it matters:

“Zostać” is not only a tribute to Ales Pushkin but also a platform for contemporary Belarusian artists to continue creating despite exile, trauma, and silence.

Auction:

From August 10, an auction of works by participating artists will open. All proceeds will go directly to the artists, providing essential support for contemporary Belarusian art. Auction lots will be available at alespushkin.com.
