A performance of “Vasil Bykau and His Devils” was staged in Warsaw. The event, timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the writer’s birth, concluded the “Pradmova” festival in Warsaw.
Director and actor of the production, Vasil Dranko-Maisyuk, said:
– It turned out joyfully noisy, carnival-like, and at times harsh. And in the end, all this carnival circus we created here transformed into something truly serious. I hope the audience understood that behind all this cheerful carnival there is real evil, real devils, and one must know how to drive them away. Bykau managed, at the end of the play, to drive these devils away, simply destroy them. I really want us to do the same with our devils.
The cast included Alena Bayarava, Volha Karalyonak, and Marharyta Yaktsievich. Music by Siarhei Puksta, scenic design by Danila Hancharou. The performance took place at the Museum of Free Belarus.
