The exhibition features 14 historical reconstructions of costumes from the 11th century to the early 20th century. Among them are the clothing of a Polotsk princess, a young Queen Bona, a noblewoman from the 1863–1864 uprising, and traditional Belarusian peasant attire.
After the events of 2020, Katsiaryna Vadanosava was forced to emigrate from Belarus. In Białystok, she founded her School of Traditional Costume. Her historical costumes are both artistic creations and results of scientific research, made using authentic materials and traditional textile techniques such as embroidery, weaving, sewing, tailoring, knitting, and braiding.
Every piece of clothing and accessory corresponds to historical sources. Each mannequin is accompanied by an artistic story, imagining who might have worn the outfit and what events in their life influenced the choice of costume.
The opening includes an author’s tour by Katsiaryna Vadanosava and a concert featuring her music and songs inspired by Belarusian history.
