This year, the commemorative events of the Night of (Un)Executed Poets will span two days, bringing together the past and the present: the tragedy of the “Black Night” of 1937 and support for Belarusian political prisoners facing persecution today.
Day 1 — 29 October: An evening in memory of the victims of Stalinist terror. We will honour the intellectuals and creative figures executed on the night of 29–30 October 1937, as well as all victims of Soviet repression. We will gather at the Free Belarus Museum to remember their names, listen to an artistic presentation on the Great Terror, and hear poems performed by Belarusian and Polish actors, musicians, writers and politicians. The evening will conclude with an open mic, where everyone will have the opportunity to take part and read lines by their favourite poets.
Day 2 — 30 October: An evening of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners. We will meet at Pavilion X of the Warsaw Citadel, a branch of Muzeum Niepodległości, to remember contemporary Belarusian political prisoners and all those imprisoned by the Lukashenka regime. The main event will be Tales from the Castle, a theatrical and musical solo performance created by its author and director, Andrus Praga, while he was held in Minsk’s Detention Centre No. 1 on Valadarski Street. The musical accompaniment was prepared by Siarzhuk Douhushau.
We invite you to join the Night of (Un)Executed Poets and commemorate those who suffered for their words, beliefs and freedom.
