On the Day of Belarusian Political Prisoners, we invite you to a meeting dedicated to memory, freedom, and responsibility before history.

On May 21, the Free Belarus Museum together with the Museum of Independence in Warsaw will hold a Polish-Belarusian discussion titled “The 1863 Uprising: A Shared Legacy of Two Nations?” at the X Pavilion of the Warsaw Citadel.

The 1863 Uprising was one of those moments when Belarusians and Poles fought together for dignity, freedom, and the right to have a voice. More than 160 years have passed, yet the history of political repression, imprisonment, and persecution continues in our country to this day. Thousands of Belarusians remain behind bars for the very same ideals defended by the heroes of 1863.

Programme:

  • 4:30 PM – performance by the historical reenactment group “Invictus 1863”
  • 5:00 PM – discussion panel featuring Polish and Belarusian experts. The discussion will be moderated by Blanka Ciborowska, Chair of the Youth Council of the Museum of Independence in Warsaw
  • 6:00 PM – presentation of the exhibition “Voices from Behind Bars” by the Museum of Free Belarus

The meeting will take place at the Citadel — the very place where associates of Konstanty Kalinowski once awaited their sentences. The aim of the event is to remind us of those who today pay with their freedom for the right to think and live without fear.

Free admission.
