The opening of the “Depatriation” exhibition at the Free Belarus Museum is already tomorrow!

Today, we would like to reveal a little more about the project and tell you about several exhibits that had to be evacuated.

“Depatriation” is a project dedicated to preserving artefacts of Belarusian history. Objects that, under normal circumstances, should have remained at home, in Belarus. Today, however, for many of them, a museum in Warsaw is a safer place.

Among the items evacuated as part of the project are:

▪️ an invitation to the “Chernobyl Path ’96” demonstration;

▪️ the brochure “Road to Nowhere, or Two Years of A. Lukashenko’s Presidency”, published in 1996;

▪️ a campaign leaflet of Stanislav Shushkevich from the 1994 presidential election.

These artefacts from the historic 1990s were preserved in Belarus for many years. Today, they are kept outside the country so that they can be protected and made accessible to the public.

These are only a few examples from nearly 170 artefacts acquired by the museum through the project “Musealisation of Protest Artefacts in Belarus”. And new items continue to arrive.

Over the past months, the museum team, together with people in Belarus, has worked to safely evacuate, document, and preserve these testimonies of Belarusian history. At the same time, the “Depatriation” catalogue and educational materials on preserving historical artefacts at home were developed.

For security reasons, many of the stories behind these objects will remain anonymous. However, their testimonies can be seen in the exhibition.

Exhibition opening: June 9, 6:00 PM

The Free Belarus Museum, Foksal 11/1, Warsaw

This activity is implemented with the support of Belarus Beehive and the European Union.
