On April 28, the exhibition “Voices” opens at the Free Belarus Museum.

It is based on real stories of Belarusian political prisoners – people whose lives reflect the experience of an entire generation. Each installation is a separate visual and sound narrative. Four stories and four destinies become the voices of hundreds of thousands of Belarusians.

The exhibition is built on symbolism and metaphors.
Mirrored surfaces allow visitors to see themselves in the place of those behind bars.
Turnstiles represent the impossibility of free movement.
The sky symbolizes eternity, purity, and a freedom that cannot be taken away.

Four installations – four corners where a person driven to despair searches for a nonexistent fifth corner and ultimately finds it in the fifth installation. It brings light and hope, reminding us that even through darkness, one can still see the sky.

An integral part of the exhibition is the texts, read by people who have suffered under the regime and are now in forced exile. They are living witnesses to what is happening in Belarus – not fiction, but testimony.

Another witness is the author of the short stories, writer and journalist Siarhei Antonau, who created four novellas for the exhibition. Scan the QR code with your phone and listen to the stories.

If prison has become a condition of society, then “Voices” is an exhibition about both prisoners and those who remain on this side of the bars. While some wait for freedom, others must speak – through image, sound, and space. This is what multidisciplinary artist from Grodno Kaciaryna Jeŭdakimava does, bringing together the voices and destinies of different, yet deeply connected people.

Special thanks to everyone who contributed their voices.
