The book examines the activities of the Belarusian People’s Republic in Latvia, Belarusian-Latvian relations during the struggle for independence of both countries, and attempts to create Belarusian military units on Latvian territory.
The monograph also highlights the development of Belarusian cultural and social life in the interwar Latvian Republic. At that time, more than 50 Belarusian primary schools and several gymnasiums operated in Latvia. There was a Belarusian theatre, Belarusian books and periodicals were published, a youth movement was active, and Belarusian students studied at Latvian universities.
The book also discusses the activities of Belarusian political parties in Latvia, the work of Belarusian representatives in the Latvian parliament, and the stories of thousands of Belarusians who arrived in Latvia as economic migrants during the interwar period. The author also examines the fate of Latvian Belarusians during World War II under both Soviet and German occupations.
